How to Choose the Right Sauna Size
Size is the decision most people overthink — and the one most often gotten wrong. Here's a straightforward framework for choosing the right sauna for your actual life.
Start with your space, not your wishlist
Measure the room or area where the sauna will live before you look at any product. For indoor units, account for door swing clearance, ventilation, and electrical access. For outdoor cabins, account for permitting setbacks if applicable in your area. A sauna you can't fit is a sauna you can't use.
1-2 person saunas
Best for: Solo sessions, couples sharing a session, or anyone with limited space.
Footprint: Roughly 39–50" wide × 38–48" deep — fits in a corner of a spare bedroom, master bath, or home gym.
Who buys these: People who want a daily recovery ritual and don't need to share it with more than one other person. Don't underestimate the solo experience — lying flat in a 1-person infrared sauna is genuinely luxurious.
2-3 person saunas
Best for: Couples who use it together regularly, or solo users who want room to stretch out.
Footprint: Roughly 46–64" wide — the most popular size we sell for a reason. Comfortable for two, not cramped for one.
The sweet spot for most households.
4-6 person saunas
Best for: Families, social use, or anyone who wants full bench stretch-out room solo.
Footprint: 60–77" wide and up. These require a dedicated room or outdoor placement.
Electrical note: Larger units require a 240V / 30–40A dedicated circuit — plan for this before ordering.
Outdoor cabins and barrel saunas
Best for: When you want a permanent backyard wellness structure, not just a room sauna.
Footprint: Varies widely — from compact 2-person barrels to 6-person outdoor cabin saunas over 90" long. These are site-built installs: foundation, electrical, and access planning required.
Who buys these: Homeowners who want the sauna as a feature of their property, not just an appliance.
The real question: how will you actually use it?
If the honest answer is "I'll use it alone after workouts," a 1-2 person unit is perfect — and faster to heat up, cheaper to run, and easier to install. If the answer is "my family will use it together on weekends," go bigger. If you're not sure: default to one size larger than you think you need. Nobody has ever regretted extra bench space.
